" But my head feels like it's clearing up, I think I'm alright now. " ♫ John's birthday is April 13th.
♫ He grew up in the Seattle area his whole life prior to moving to Recollé for college. ♫ Despite the fact that his mother died in childbirth he has fond feelings for her based on what he's heard from his father growing up. ♫ His Nanna is awesome and nobody can tell him otherwise. Nanna moved in with John and his father when John was a baby to help raise him in the absence of his mother. ♫ As such, any time John got in trouble for some of his pranks growing up, instead of being punished appropriately his Nanna would teach him how to make his pranks better. ♫ John's favorite color is blue! ♫ For the entirety of his second and third grade year he refused to write in anything that wasn't a blue pen. ♫ For the most part, John liked school. It was routine and expected and he managed to pull decent grades despite always goofing off. ♫ His favorite subject growing up was music, followed closely by science. ♫ On the other hand, he was really bad at math and continues to be bad at math to this day. ♫ John's classmates liked him a lot because he was funny and easy-going and as such nobody ever had a bad thing to say about him. ♫ Despite that, he didn't grow up with a lot of close friends and he was content that way. ♫ John was the kind of boy who would get invited to every single birthday party and show up mostly to be polite and then leave whenever he felt like it. ♫ Instead, he was far happier spending time with his dad and his nanna at home and also browsing the internet. ♫ John is self-taught when it comes to piano. His father started to teach him when he was about three or four and John continued practice on his own. He learned to write music on his own and would often times be doing that during class instead of paying attention. This is probably when he was bad at math. ♫ You only need to know how to count to eight, fuck everything else. ♫ He has played in recitals and the like before and currently has a few recorded files on his computer of his own music. ♫ Once his father left though John flat-out stopped playing music. He can still perform at the drop of a hat but he doesn't bother now. ♫ John believes in magic and John believes in love. ♫ John is also the type of person who will be chatting with a friend online or on the phone and walk away mid-conversation only to come back fifteen minutes later with no explanation. ♫ John constantly loses things! This is why he currently has a very old iPhone 4. ♫ Soccer was the one sport that John liked and latched onto in high school because it was team-oriented and fast and didn't involve a lot of stupid rules like football. ♫ For this reason, he's good at it. He will play for fun whenever he wants. ♫ John loves video games and comic books and hoards both. His Steam library and his Kindle are loaded to the max with stupid shit. ♫ He has the basic social media accounts (FB, Insta, Twitter) but he only checks them every couple of weeks. He tends to forget about those, too. ♫ He's pretty good about updating his movie review blog though and tries to dedicate time once a week to watch a movie and write his thoughts about it. ♫ He has written and filmed a few short student films. They probably aren't very good, but he's trying. ♫ After his father left, John became a little more desperate for friends to like him and not forget about him. ♫ John isn't a flirt and he can actually be awkward with anyone he finds attractive, but he does crush on people pretty easily. ♫ John will immediately drop whatever he's doing to help a friend, even at the expense of himself. ♫ That said, he also is very firm in his opinions and doesn't bow too easily. |

" But my head feels like it's clearing up, I think I'm alright now. "
-John Egbert grew up in Seattle, WA as an only child.
-With his mother dying during childbirth, John grew up without her. -While he was immensely curious about her, overall this was okay by John because he was raised by his father and his father's mother, affectionately known as Nanna. -John has never known a life without Nanna in it and thanks to the influence of both of the adults in his life he was encouraged to grow up having a somewhat light-hearted, whimsical spirit. -John went through elementary school and most of junior high skating by with somewhat decent grades and mostly building his popularity on being the class clown. It sometimes got him in trouble but for the most part he was liked among his peers and his teachers because he was generally a good kid. -Granted, that didn't mean that John had a lot of very close friends. He was content to make friends with people but he found joy most often screwing around in his room at home or hanging out with his dad and his grandmother. -As such, he grew up honing two specific crafts: baking, and playing the piano. -Baking was a trial and error but he took to music like a duck to water, so to speak. Never formally taking lessons, John learned how to play under the guidance of his dad and having an ear for music. -While kids his age spent hours with their friends doing things like hanging out at the mall or skateparks or amusement parks, John entertained himself by composing stacks and stacks of music that he's never done anything with. -Overall, his childhood was a pretty happy place for a while. -When he was 13, however, one day his father left and never came back. It was something he couldn't understand and didn't have a frame of reference for, and though Nanna told him he'd be back someday, by the time John packed up to go to college that has yet to be true. He's never been quite sure if it's because of work or because his dad needed to go find himself or what the fuck. Nanna was elusive about the whole thing and that also added to John's frustration of the situation. -Eventually, like most things, John just sort of accepted that and came to rely more on himself and doing his best to be a good grandson anyway. -Once he hit high school, he decided to pursue something that would keep him outside of the house for a while so he wouldn't be reminded of this weird absent fact. -This is about the point that he decided he would pick up a sport, and soccer seemed like the easiest one to go after. He was good enough at it and preferred to play more for fun than profit, but he played for all four years of high school. -Of course, John's interests wander and soccer only occupied him in the fall. One day on a whim he tried out for the baseball team and found that he was better than good enough. He played for all four years of high school as well, eventually finding himself on the varsity team his senior year. Not bad for something meant to be a hobby. -He coasted by with decent grades as usual, but started to find himself wanting to be around people more and more instead of his coveted alone time. -John made friends with everyone he possibly could and did his best to be the best friend possible. He quickly made a reputation for himself as the nice, light-hearted jock who was not only good for giving advice but also had enough hook-ups to get things for free because of the friends he'd made. While those friends didn't really know much about John himself (and he was content with that, preferring to keep to himself now more than ever), he did his best to learn as much as possible about those around him. -When he didn't have plans in his real life he took to the internet and made friends there. This was where John allowed himself to be a little more. Well. Himself. And because of this he was able to make one very close friend on the internet who lived across the country. She was the only one he really spoke to at length about any subjects that were more than surface-level events. -Outside of all of his friends, one girl managed to break through his bubble and he fell head over heels for her when he was sixteen. Their relationship was fast to start and fast to move and for a while John was perfectly happy allowing this to be so. -But naturally all things must come to an end, and not long after John's 18th birthday the relationship ended poorly and left a bitter taste in his mouth about it. -He still loved his friends and he still did his best constantly be surrounded by people, but over time he realized that…well, people change. And all things do come to an end. -Perhaps it was childish in a way, but with that in mind and knowing that after high school things would change again, John jumped the gun started to look into options for college out of state. -He's not exactly excited about college but it's a thing he should do and he knows it'll make Nanna proud, so he studies and applies a few places including to Recollé University under the recommendation of the one internet friend he trusts. -The problem is John doesn't even know what he wants to study. -In the rare span of time John found himself alone, he took up watching and reviewing movies. He has a blog that sometimes he remembers to update, but usually he forgets about it. This lead to John consuming a bunch of movies and developing his own independent tastes and even dabbling a little in the art of making his own films. None of these have seen the light of day, but they exist. It's one of the reasons a cinematography program piques his interests. -On the other hand, he knows it's hard to get jobs in films so he also looks into colleges with a good biology program. It's been drilled into his brain that there are always jobs in science. -Surprisingly, his grades are enough to scrape by and earn an acceptance letter to RU. -Even knowing he wanted to leave and had to leave, there was a bit of hesitance to the decision. With Nanna being the only family he really cared about, and still being unsure of what he wants to do in life, he found himself stalling on saying yes to the offer for RU. On the other hand, it was with the guidance of Nanna and understanding he needed to grow up and move forward that he decided Recollé would be a good change for him. -At the time of his arrival to the city, John will be a freshman attending RU and figuring out what path he really wants to take. He'll need a job and maybe some new friends, but how hard can that be? -Be the hero, John. |
