Given how many people seem to be against self-preservation when it comes to stuff like this? That is probably accurate. Here, back up a little?
[And out of his sylladex comes the sassacrusher as big as ever. The gauntlets are on and John wiggles his fingers as two ghost-hands appear in front of him also wiggling their fingers. He moves his arms a little, ghost-hands following before he works on picking up the hammer.] Be on the lookout for cracks and stuff. I do not want to accidentally wreck the city by doing this.
This is just another mark of our friendship, Karkat. [But he eyeballs the dome and picks up sassacrusher, using the gauntlets to swing the hammer as it crashes straight into the dome. The wall wobbles dangerously but it doesn't crack even as the hit ripples for longer than the first time they touched it.
There's a second hit, too, and blue sparks begin to pop.]
Is it breaking apart at all or is it just sparking at us? [He pulls back to get a better look, poking the dome tentatively with the end of the hammer again.] It's way stronger than it looks.
Maybe the giant hammer isn't doing shit because it is impractical as a weapon. Most of my memories involve other hammers instead of this thing. One more hit to see if it cracks?
Sweet, let's do it. [The hammer goes back up and he's almost too eager to see if this works. Sparks aren't always bad...and there's a mental count of one, two, three before the hammer swings.
The dome lights up that same sickly blue and there's a yelp as an electric shock shoots up the hammer and into the ghost hands. The gauntlets manage to shock him and the ghost-figures disappear, but it's thankfully not enough to knock him out. Just enough to scare the shit out of him.]
Makes you wonder what's going to come next, doesn't it? They talked about their project and stuff but there's no proof the two are the same. On the other hand, it's the technology and power that concerns me. But then again they can implant memories to our brain. This is probably easy for them.
[Give him a second to just kind of stare at Karkat's eyes because like...yeah. What the fuck else can they do that they don't know about?]
They have not exactly been the most upfront about the powers they possess and how they are actually doing these things, plus there's the whole part where nobody really asked for this. I get it, I'm glad we are saved or whatever from worlds being destroyed but you and me and the others already did that, apparently, and we were doing fine on our own. Why does it have to be these people?
It kind of just gives the feeling like we owe them now because they went and did us this great big favor.
[ which is... more than a little annoying, to say the least. they can get annoyed at retrospec, but now they can't get too annoyed because it's for their own good, or whatever, which feels manipulative. ]
What happens if they decide to cash in on that favor?
Yeah. Really nice favor, doing something we did not actually ask for. [...] You think they'd do that? What would that even mean? It's not like we can actually do anything for them. I do not know how to manipulate people's memories, do you?
[ he highly doubts he will suddenly gain that power. ]
But there are a lot of people here who are getting really absurd fucking powers. Even if they might not want specifically us, maybe there are other Retrospec users they'd be interested in exploiting?
It could explain why more people come on the app every couple of months. Waking us up in batches so they can test and see what skills we may be getting back. Putting it that way it's still not fair because then we're stuck with all of this anyway whether we want it or not.
[He shakes his head.] I know you know all of this, it's just...stupid. Like more than our usual level of stupid.
Dude, at least we were able to actually do something about our usual level of stupid. [ ... ] I mean, not like a lot of the shit we did helped or in some cases, made it worse, but it didn't feel like we were screaming into the void?
Our universe is a frog. The new one. I saw it, it started out as a tadpole and then just...[He makes a "zoom" motion with his hand.] The last universe was a frog, too. And people have to breed them for whatever reason. I guess special frogs are required.

We might as well. Maybe at least to see what the fuck those sparks are if they pop up again.

I don't think we're going to break this.

Not if it wants to defend itself. I didn't think it would have a mind of its own but I was maybe giving Retrospec way too much credit.
