[ dave isn't sitting up straight, but he's slouched back against the bed and not leaning over into john as such. he's breaking apart his chopsticks, since he actually uses those. ]

We can, as long as you do your job and keep me warm? [ that's john's job now, apparently, ] Or whenever. I've always liked the stars - well, you knew that. I kinda started hangin' out on the rooftop of the planetarium once I got my flight.

[He's doing the same even so, but he laughs at Dave's remark all the same.] When have I failed that job lately? And I know. We played cards up there once. The stars probably like you more than most people, I think.

[parodeity]

[ he gets an amused glance. ] "The stars probably like you"? Dude, that's the soppiest shit you've ever said to me, you realize?

[windeity]

I do realize, but so what? Does it make it any less true?

[parodeity]

Maybe? I think perhaps you are a little biased.

[windeity]

Probably, but again, so what? You...[He leans in a little closer.] Are kind of my north star, idiot. In case you didn't know.

[parodeity]

[ ...why the fuck do statements like that make his heart flip in that nauseating way where it's like the world drops out from under you and you haven't yet fallen because gravity missed you for a second, like the drop in a coaster, and there's just pure adrenaline, pulse speeding up as he stares.

there's a laugh as he swallows down the first words to come to mind, knocking his elbow into john's. ]

I know, I know. The people that need you. You told me once, remember?

Not just that! [But he's pleased with himself all the same because making Dave go speechless for even a second is hilarious to him.] The people that need me, but also the people I need. I think...everyone has a person, right? Rose is probably yours because I am not stupid enough to think otherwise, and you're mine.

[parodeity]

[ stop making him go speechless in this exact manner, his heart can only take so much of revelations he has to ignore.

also this is not conducive to dinner. he's staring again and he actually puts his food aside and just leans over to put a hand to either side of john's face and kiss him, hard. idiot. ]

[windeity]

[This is really stupid considering John's allowing this but also he's still holding a box of take-out. That gets put to the side kind of carelessly and he shifts to press himself further into Dave's hold and kiss back. Dave doesn't always initiate affection and when he does it's probably better to ignore everything else and focus on that instead.]

[ why did dave bother to get dinner?? also SOMETIMES he

hugs john yeah usually he doesn't initiate much beyond pecks on the cheek or lips, never in public. focusing on when he actually initiates affection without hesitation is probably fair, that's fair.

dave's got his torso twisted awkwardly to john and presumably at least this time john can track the cause and effect of what he said. maybe. he does eventually pull back and say: ]

[He shifts to try and accommodate for the way Dave's spread, hand on his hip and moving along his side.]

It's a cool thing to think about, isn't it? [Keeping each other tied, he means. Rose keeping Dave together. All of it.]

[parodeity]

[ he lets out a sigh, pressure from his hands on john's cheeks as he shakes john's head slowly side to side before dropping his hands to curl at the back of john's neck. ]

...Do you really think you're not some kind of guiding light, John? Rose keeps me grounded, but I've always judged right and wrong from the compass point of you. [ he always forgets, these days, about the time he spent here before he remembered. it falls back behind the memories more and more. ]

[windeity]

[His head lolls from side to side while Dave moves it, staring at him even when he stops.]

The whole hero thing? [Hm.] What about if I don't know what's wrong or right either? And anyway, the thing about that is that most of my judgment comes from what will keep us together, I think.

[parodeity]

I don't... [ how to explain that he means being normal and being a good person as much as being a hero? ] ...without a sun there's no life in a system. There ain't a system at all, maybe, since you kind of need a star.

[windeity]

[Space. He leans into Dave's hands to try and kiss him again, just briefly.]

A star needs certain components to keep from burning out. Without those...it's useless. In a way it's probably weirdly symbiotic that way.

[parodeity]

[ a frustrated noise and dave would shove john to the floor but there's food there so instead he shifts, moving away from where he'd been sitting to rest on his knees in front of john instead. ]

John, [ but he doesn't know which parts of what he feels to say. ]

[windeity]

[His hands come up to hold onto Dave's wrists instead.]

What's up?

[parodeity]

I'm...[ fifty days, he reminds himself, and dave bites his lip for a minute, staring. ] You're impossible.

[ but he means it in a thousand different ways. ]

[windeity]

...yeah, well. [A lopsided smile.] I love you. What do you expect?

[parodeity]

[ what did he expect. ]

...To feel completely terrified. [ he laughs, and leans in to kiss john again, soft and slow and quiet. ]

[windeity]

[The first question, of course, is "of what" but he doesn't get to properly ask since Dave's mouth is on his and he's keeping the kiss just as slow. He doesn't mind this and he won't pull away first, keeping himself still and pliant and letting his eyes shut.]

[parodeity]

[ john doesn't need to know??? dave's keeping his balance while kneeling and leaning with one hand on the bed and one on john's knee, but it's light pressure only to steady himself. he doesn't push any further than this. ]

[windeity]

[He moves to hold onto Dave's hip to also steady him, pressure a little harder to keep him grounded and he doesn't up the kiss since he's happy to keep it slow if that's what Dave wanted to start. He could get used to this.]

[parodeity]

[ there's a soft sort of hum when john touches him, and dave pulls back just as slowly as he'd kissed john and just watches him in the dark. ]
