Well...my girlfriend and I broke up a few weeks after my 18th birthday and a few weeks before graduation and before prom, she put a huge dent in the side of my car that I should probably fix, I realized that everything I was doing up to that moment actually didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, most of my friends were just going to college because it was expected and that's what I was going to do, too, until I realized I should probably try to do something and...I don't know. I just realized that my whole life was kind of weirdly insignificant and I wanted to do better. It's why I stopped going out every weekend and drinking every weekend and why I moved here.

[Tada...surprise, Nat.]

[She falls silent for a moment, glancing at the ground, before she looks back to him.]

Your life is so not insignificant, no matter what.

[But...]

Is it better, now that you're here?

[windeity]

I know that now. I just...I don't know. When I was dating Vic it was a lot easier not to think about my dad being gone or missing music and focus on social standing and sports and being liked enough so people wouldn't leave. I wanted to be enough.

[This is hilariously deep and soul-baring for being on horseback but whatever.]

But yeah. It is. [There's a grin.] I feel a lot more like myself now. Whoever that was and is supposed to be. It just fits better.

High school is hard enough without... all of that. I'm sorry about your dad. Um, both of them. But you're also enough no matter what.

[That last part earns a soft smile.]

I'm glad it got better, too.

Thanks...[There's a slight grin even if he's embarrassed.] I ended up owing Nanna a huge apology, too, after Vic and I broke up but after that everything felt better. It felt fine again.

The network helped a lot though.

Yeah. It's kind of weird how that works, huh? I mean... If someone came up to me last year all like, hey, so you're going to get an app on your phone that's going to make you remember a past life and it's going to drastically improve your social life, I would've slowly backed away while nodding awkwardly.

I tried explaining it to someone who just got the network a while ago and that is about the response he gave me, too. I'm pretty sure he believes me now though. You know Gar? [Who's like. In their group.] Lesson learned: people are going to think this is weird no matter how normal it seems to us now.

[robitussin]

That's fair enough.

[Punctuated with a small noise of amusement.]

It'd be cool if we could, like, have the same effect where we make tons of new friends, but only remember really awesome stuff. That'd be neat.

[windeity]

Maybe if we start a petition or something that can be a thing that happens. "Let Retrospec keep our shitty memories" or something like that.

[His horse jolts forward a bit but he manages to keep the reins in his hands.]

That would be cool. Nothing would make sense, but it would be, like, a happy nonsensical life.

[She gives him a look.]

You okay?

[windeity]

That seems on par with my life now? It's not like anything makes sense this way in the first place. And yeah, it's fine. I have to get as much practice as possible for some thing Dave wants to do.

[robitussin]

...Wait, is Dave making you go horseback riding? I had no idea that was a thing he was into.

[windeity]

I guess most of his family knows how to and his brother's really into horses? But no, it's not that. It's jousting. [Because somehow that is so much better.]

[robitussin]

...Wait, what? Why is he teaching you to joust?

[windeity]

He's not, it's for some YouTube thing with a friend of his? I actually am not entirely clear on it.

[robitussin]

If you guys get yourselves killed I am going to be so mad at you.

[windeity]

Okay first of all! I have died enough in the old lifetime, I am not really looking for a repeat in this one. Second of all I think it's like...fake jousting? The details of it are not really clear to me. But it'll be fine.

[robitussin]

[She pauses for a few moments as he mentions that first detail, but continues on after that pause.]

Why does he want you to fake joust?

Why does Dave want me to do any of the weird shit Dave sometimes wants me to do? [Better yet, why does John go with it?] I don't know, I am sure he explained it but I would have to go through my thousand texts from him this month to really know.

[robitussin]

Because he's Dave, I guess.

[A pause.]

I can't believe I have to ask this, but is that an exaggeration or not?

[windeity]

That...is probably not an exaggeration? [Eheh.] Dave likes texting.

[robitussin]

You guys are such nerds.

[windeity]

Like you wouldn't text somebody a lot if you were dating and separated for a whole month? Come on. ...but Dave also would have probably texted me a lot even if we were not dating so never mind.

[robitussin]

I would totally play it cool, as I would in all hypothetical romantic encounters.

[She smirks.]

I stand by the fact that you guys are nerds.

So what I am hearing is that we have to find you someone for a romantic encounter just to check. [An equally cheeky grin.] Besides if we're nerds what exactly does that make you?
