Pie is actually pretty troublesome, too. At least broccoli never broke the door to my car.

Ex-girlfriend! [Why does he sound cheerful...] It was a couple of months ago, it's whatever. She damaged it hard enough it stopped working without a ton of effort but it's mostly okay now.

Jesus. Messy break up, I'm assuming?

[windeity]

Sort of, yes. [This soup sure is interesting.] It was a really dumb fight and we're both not great when we're egging each other on so it kind of blew up into a huge thing and we broke up. I think she was mad that I wasn't giving her the reaction she wanted.

[robitussin]

What reaction did she want? Or do you even know?

[windeity]

[There's a shrug.] It's funny. Vic and I dated for, like, two years or maybe a little longer than that and I do not think I ever really understood what she was going for when she wanted reactions. I assume she wanted me to be more mad though. Or beg her to stay. Neither of which was happening.

Yeah... Sounds like guys weren't a great fit. At least you know Dave way better, right?

[windeity]

Probably. It's not that I didn't know Vic well in a bunch of other ways? I think I loved her for a while. [Alas.] But it worked out given I decided to come here anyway.

[Serving soup, serving soup.] ...I'm talking to him tonight, by the way.

What made you decide to come here? Was it just Dave, or...?

[She nearly pauses in her ladeling for a moment, glancing over at him.]

Seriously? Dude, nice! Fingers crossed.

[windeity]

[An awkward, nervous grin. He'll get back to that in a second.]

Actually I didn't even know Dave existed before I walked into our dorm room. I'd never met him in this lifetime before then. It was just...it's maybe stupid now. But I wanted a change from Seattle and from my old friends.

[robitussin]

Dude, seriously? I bet that must have been a shock for him, if he'd already been remembering stuff about you. Man.

I noticed you avoiding that second topic.

Oh I am pretty sure it freaked him out entirely. He was weird the first couple of weeks before I remembered who he was and then everything made sense after that.

[...sigh.] I'm not avoiding it. I'm just...nervous, maybe. I'm still not sure this is going to work.

[robitussin]

Yeah. I can't even imagine how I'd deal with that... But it sounds like it worked out. That's, like, some fate or destiny shit.

[She tilts her head.]

Come on. You said yourself he's super into you, right?

[windeity]

The laws of paradox space, I think. Our decisions aren't always entirely our own. [He stirs the soup again.] And yes, that is in fact what I said but he's also I think still super upset with me since we haven't actually talked since Friday besides when you came over on Sunday. [Which was, as John had told her, perfectly fine and cordial.]

So. He can be super into me and I can be super into him and this could still fuck up a lot. That's all.

[robitussin]

But even if there's outside stuff that comes into play, you can decide how to react to it, right?

[She shakes her head.]

I'm fairly sure you're overthinking this. Like... You have memories of being friends for ages, right? You can get through this.

[windeity]

Usually, yeah. It's all complicated and dumb but at least this life is mostly mine. [A shrug.] And yeah, I do. I have a lot of memories from this life and other timelines. It'll be fine, I'm just freaking out because I haven't actually asked anybody out, like, ever. And I've also never asked out a guy. So it's a double-threat.

[robitussin]

Just be yourself. He likes you, you don't have to try too hard. Other than, uh, being respectful of his boundaries?

[windeity]

Okay, being myself is how we got here though? So I can be myself but also maybe chill out on other parts of being myself for right now. But I know his limits and boundaries. We have a tendency to push each other's limits and I guess that was always true no matter what version of him I was dealing with and--

--[And he pauses. He seems to pause for a moment...before there's a loud groan and he buries his face in one of his hands.] Boundaries. Right.

[robitussin]

John. Deep breaths, seriously. You are absolutely overthinking this, which is fair, because this kind of thing is probably terrifying? But also, please don't.

[windeity]

No, it's not that. I mean it is that but also something else and never mind, I get it. It's fine. This is going to be fine? [Fun things: remembering embarrassing memories in public.] It'll be fine and I will keep you up to date. Promise.

[She looks at him for another moment, pausing.]
