Yeah, likewise. [And thus they get to their room eventually and he waits for Dave to open the door, making a show of closing his eyes and everything.]

Don't open them until I say. [ and he opens the door, pushing john in gently with a hand at the small of his back until dave can get the door shut. he watches for the cat immediately running over to trip them up, and takes both of john's hands to drag him over towards the bed, where he makes john sit. ]

Okay - not okay to open, just like, conversationally okay - so, what do you know about today?

[Okay. Well, this is a bed and that's fine, he hears the tip-tap-tip-tap of Mewpac's claws while she's running across the floor, but otherwise...hm.]

It's the last day of January? Oh and something about the moon.

[ he's pretty much just standing in front of john, but dave does lean down to tilt john's chin up to briefly and as chastely as possible give him a peck on the lips. ]

Look at you, knowing shit. Okay, hang on. [ there's movement, and then he drops onto the bed beside john and says. ] You can open your eyes now, if you want.

[ the moon thing was right: it's stupid and impossible to view an eclipse or even the stars with the dome.

but with a lot of youtube videos and loops of time and supplies, it's possible to make a pretty neat star projector. he took down all their glow in the dark things to be replaced later, and otherwise the room is...

very star-projected and dark.

mewpac happily chases some of them as they spin around. ]

[He's still happy with that, moreso that that was the right answer and he feels the bed dip with Dave's weight before there's a questioning noise. On the other hand, Dave says "open" and so he does.]

Holy shit...[It's the first thing out of his mouth because this is. So much? This is so much and part of him was wondering if they'd miss something like that, and yet here they are. The room's dark and the YouTube stars glow and Mewpac's running while John laughs under his breath.] Dude...this is really cool. [He's trying to pinpoint all of the directions the stars are moving but that's a lot of effort here.]

[ i meant youtube videos showing how to make the led light...things...................i'm not eloquent shut ur mouth BUT YES. dave looks sideways at john, a tiny smile somehow genuine and shyly relieved at the same time, but. ]

I thought we could just like have a picnic in here or whatever for dinner? I picked up chinese.

[Eloquence is fake. But that grin is both really cute and really...something, and he likes it and the ceiling's beautiful and he's not even going to think about how long this took him.]

You. Picked up food. [Color him even more surprised and there's a soft, pleased sort of noise as he moves forward to lean his forehead against Dave's.] Have I ever told you you are pretty much the best person I have ever known?

I thought you might be hungry. [ he sucks at feeding himself regularly, but he consistently worries about other people. he's always trying to buy food and shit for chiyo, for example, who has learned that she can get dave to eat with her usually. ]

Which you must be, if you're exaggerating this much?

Shut up, I’m just...[How to explain...] Yes, I am starving and I want to share but also nobody’s done something like this for me before. Usually I’m doing it instead.

[Maybe he likes being spoiled a bit. Maybe.]

[parodeity]

[ he hums acknowledgement, looking faintly concerned. give him a second. ]

That just makes me think I haven't been doin' enough for you. I...like doing things. [ john's stupid fucking rabbit in a past life, and a dozen things in this one. ]

[windeity]

You gave me a bridge kiss, do you not remember that? [He rolls his eyes a little] You have given me a lot, seriously don’t doubt that. Ever.

[parodeity]

It would be a little hard to forget that one. [ shifting back to amused. ] ...Don't kiss me, though, I'll grab the food. Want to eat on the bed or the floor?

[windeity]

I'm not going to forget the best part of 2018. [There's a faux-pout at that, but he considers for a moment before he nods toward the ground.]

The floor sounds like a good idea. Then we can pretend they really are the stars since they will be higher up.

[parodeity]

[ there's a light snort of disbelief, but okay. ]

Also, the cat will then have obstacles. [ but the chinese is just in his sylladex, so he's actually grabbing drinks (apple juice for him, a can of whatever for john) before he sits down cross-legged with his back against the bed. the projector thing is a little ways away in the dead center of the room, and the cat is still chasing stars... ]

She's a menace. [He's on the floor then not long after, settling next to Dave with his back against the bed and pulling a carton of food closer. That doesn't stop him from subtly leaning against him and watching their cat.]

...can we do this if the dome disappears soon, too? Like a real stargazing dinner. [Like the night they got together, mostly.] This is almost cooler than that though since it is more personal.

[parodeity]

[ dave isn't sitting up straight, but he's slouched back against the bed and not leaning over into john as such. he's breaking apart his chopsticks, since he actually uses those. ]

We can, as long as you do your job and keep me warm? [ that's john's job now, apparently, ] Or whenever. I've always liked the stars - well, you knew that. I kinda started hangin' out on the rooftop of the planetarium once I got my flight.

[windeity]

[He's doing the same even so, but he laughs at Dave's remark all the same.] When have I failed that job lately? And I know. We played cards up there once. The stars probably like you more than most people, I think.

[parodeity]

[ he gets an amused glance. ] "The stars probably like you"? Dude, that's the soppiest shit you've ever said to me, you realize?

[windeity]

I do realize, but so what? Does it make it any less true?

[parodeity]

Maybe? I think perhaps you are a little biased.

[windeity]

Probably, but again, so what? You...[He leans in a little closer.] Are kind of my north star, idiot. In case you didn't know.

[parodeity]

[ ...why the fuck do statements like that make his heart flip in that nauseating way where it's like the world drops out from under you and you haven't yet fallen because gravity missed you for a second, like the drop in a coaster, and there's just pure adrenaline, pulse speeding up as he stares.

there's a laugh as he swallows down the first words to come to mind, knocking his elbow into john's. ]

I know, I know. The people that need you. You told me once, remember?

[windeity]

Not just that! [But he's pleased with himself all the same because making Dave go speechless for even a second is hilarious to him.] The people that need me, but also the people I need. I think...everyone has a person, right? Rose is probably yours because I am not stupid enough to think otherwise, and you're mine.

[parodeity]

[ stop making him go speechless in this exact manner, his heart can only take so much of revelations he has to ignore.

also this is not conducive to dinner. he's staring again and he actually puts his food aside and just leans over to put a hand to either side of john's face and kiss him, hard. idiot. ]
