About? [Yeah, he's getting that. He's just going to keep talking to keep Dave grounded for the time being.]

Nothing important. [ he shakes himself, withdraws a little, and refocuses on the task at hand. right, time travel.

there's half a second of hesitation before he calls up his time tables again, but this time when he forces himself to love he does disappear. ]

[He jumps a little when Dave disappears, a hand reaching out to grab at nothing before he grasps the air and...waits...

...time travel is the worst, he thinks.]

[parodeity]

[ turnabout is probably unfair play to the guy who turned into the breeze a lot while running from jade.

a few minutes later there's a soft displacement of air further away by ten or fifteen feet and dave looks...fine? a little calmer. still tired but less freaked out for the moment, even if it maybe hadn't registered how tense he was. ]

Works out here. But nowhere in town I've tried.

[On instinct he moves forward again. The windy thing and time travel displacement are two different things ok.]

So what do you think it is? A barrier or something?

[ there's a frustrated little shrug. ] I think something really, really doesn't want me to time travel inside the boundary. I don't know how or why. I still could do other shit and that didn't cause...whatever that was?

[windeity]

Okay. Then don't use time travel inside the barrier until we figure it out. We don't even know where the barrier could be coming from.

[parodeity]

...Yeah, fine. [ one of those aborted movements where he starts towards john then stops himself, but. ] You're not gonna try your thing, either, are you?

[windeity]

[It's fine, he takes a step forward himself.] ...no. I was not planning on it, I think. I don't know how it would work here.

[parodeity]

[ it's not quite physical contact, but it's something. dave shoves his hands into his pockets. ] ...dunno. You might get slammed with worse than I did. Even if not, it wouldn't...

...just try to stay in the timeline I'm in for now.

I do not plan on attempting it anytime soon. [A little too firmly and a little too uncertain all at once. He doesn't want to tell Dave he doesn't trust himself to actually try in the first place.]

Just give me a heads up if that changes? [ ...he'd like to say goodbye or something, if it's ever relevant. ]

It won't. [A little more confident this time.] Likewise though.

[parodeity]

What? [ a little baffled. john already told him not to time travel inside the town, so? ]

...what? [And now he's confused because he didn't realize just how much influence he really has over Dave Strider.]

[parodeity]

You want me to do something else...? [ in addition. ]

No. I mean...I guess I do not want you doing the time travel thing, but if you ever have to please tell me? That's all.

[parodeity]

[ a slight frown. ] Out here, too?

Is that okay? [He has a lot of concerns about Dave doing things and hurting himself without saying so.] I mean I guess out here is okay since we have seen it's okay but in case.

[parodeity]

[ maybe it's not quite okay because it's his aspect and he's cut himself off from it before but he hasn't had someone else tell him no. there's the frazzled thought that if he gets himself killed by refusing to time travel it's going to be possibly the most ironic thing he's ever done.

bro would be so proud. except really he wouldn't care.

a shrug, and dave swallows so his mouth isn't dry. ]

[He frowns a little, still stepping forward until they're side by side.]

Just. Without warning. It's hard to turn off our aspects, but I don't like the idea of you trying if the town is pissed you're doing it. We can figure out something else?

[ dave doesn't move or flinch away, anyway? although he very specifically shoved his hands in his pockets earlier so he'd stop reaching out. ]

Got it. [ there are only a few instances he generally uses time travel, anyway, without planning. the non planned instances are, admittedly, "during battle to avoid death if it won't fuck with the timeline" but like eh. ] I'll send you notarized office memos every time.
