[He kind of had to see him for himself to really get his hopes up, so he settles for zipping over the rest of the way and sitting next to him.]

Sorry about that. It's not that I'm not excited. [There's a grin.] Remind me never to take your color again.

[ dave's lying down with his laptop on his stomach, but he tosses it into his sylladex and drags john down instead. ] You now owe me a kiss and a heart?

[Give him a moment to settle on top of Dave then since that's happening.] How am I supposed to give you a heart if you shut your laptop?

I'll settle for yours.

Which one do you want first though? Those are two different things.

That doesn't even answer my question, idiot. [But he shifts enough to peck his lips anyway.]

[ no? no pecks allowed. dave's hand hooks behind john's neck, gentle but insistent. kiss him properly? ]

...nah, it's not like John doesn't actually want to, so he sort of settles on Dave and turns his head enough for a proper kiss, letting his hands kind of rest along the sides of Dave's head.]

[ dave maybe has been careful about touching john since the girls showed up. as in he hasn't in the same way, keeping away from the shy but more open attempts when they lived alone. but they're alone in their room and his other hand is at john's hip and maybe it's comforting that john still wants to do this. ]

[It's fine, they're behind closed doors so he's not exactly thinking about it anyway. He's grown used to this and it's nice that Dave isn't totally lackluster and drained. He's doing his best to keep them from bumping noses (or glasses) at the moment and he's letting his ankle wrap around one of Dave's for a point of contact.

He's also wondering if he's being a human heater here but doesn't seem to mind that much. One of his hands tentatively brushes at Dave's hair, but the other stays still to balance him. At least he's getting a little less awkward about kissing.]

[ john is always doing double duty as a heater. some sort of tension fades from dave as john kisses him, regardless of whatever traces of awkwardness remain, but he reluctantly pulls back after a moment to gauge where john's at, quiet and teenage-terrified or messing up. ]

Hey. [ ridiculously: ] I missed you today. Catch me up?

[ it's a quiet request and genuinely happy, as though the simple pleasure of being able to trade stories was somehow rare and precious. or maybe it's more that he's still frequently in awed disbelief john's willing to be with him like this. ]

[They'll figure it out someday, maybe. John's equally quiet and lets Dave take the lead since he's still not sure what to be doing here, but he smiles anyway because that's...really lame. In a good way. It's the kind of Dave he knows is cool in ways he doesn't present to other people and that alone makes him happier.]

I wish I had something exciting to tell you, but all I can say is that I spent most of my morning trying to get rid of the frozen snow around the house. [That's helpful.] The rain made it kind of gross.

[ there's an interested note anyway because like fuck dave is doing snow chores, as he shifts under john to reach up and flip his shades into his hair. there's maybe a moment's hesitation, but he covers it well. ] Windy thing or shovel? You definitely should have said something if it was the latter.

[Hello Dave's eyes, how are you doing. He's actually okay with that. Weird how that works!! But he's settling on him anyway.]

What difference does it make if I'm using a shovel?

I dunno, maybe I'd have come and kept you company. [ settling is fine. dave is content to fiddle with the hem of john's shirt, apparently out of a lack for anything better to do. ] Windy shenanigans would be dangerous though.

[He doesn't mind Dave toying with his shirt. He seems to be processing that though.]

Why, because the snow could have hit you in the face? [...wait.] You just want to see my arms while I'm shoveling snow, don't you.

[ right on both counts, but dave widens his eyes in false innocence. ] You would absolutely cover me in snow with wind??

Not that much. [A teasing grin.] It'd be a good excuse to cuddle later anyway?

Do I need an excuse?

[windeity]

No, I guess not. [They're sort of cuddling? They probably need a blanket.] Truthfully that is why I did not ask you to do that quest, but...if quests really bring back colors, maybe it is a good idea anyway.
