[This chore, in contrast to the others they've had to perform, takes very few supplies to complete. She comes into their designated soup kitchen sometime in the afternoon, and all she has with her are a few aprons. The reason for that is quickly made clear when she sees John.]

Catch!

[And then she's tossing an apron his way.]

[Why do all of you throw things at him?! Either way yeah he's catching the apron with one hand and offering her a half-hearted grin as he stares at it before shaking it out.]

Hello to you, too. You think these are necessary?

[A shrug.]

I don't want to accidentally drip soup on myself. Do you?

[A shrug.] I guess not when you put it that way. [And he's slipping on the apron with little argument. It's not quite the same excitement he displayed over their last two chores but he's doing his best.] At least it smells pretty good.

Yeah. This one should be easy enough, too.

[She puts on her own apron as she gestures in the direction of the soup pots.]

You ready?

I think so. I've actually never done something like this before, as dumb as that sounds. Decorating? Sure, no problem. Gift-wrapping? Easy. Soup? Not so much. [But he heads that way and continues to chatter as he goes.] I mean I have always thought it's a nice thing to do, in theory, but it just never really crossed my mind as a thing.

It's probably easier than both of those. You just have to pour soup into people's bowls as they come through the line.

[A pause.]

Also, we should absolutely get soup somewhere once we're done, because this is going to make me really hungry.

I think we can definitely get soup once we're done here. There's this really good café not too far from here that has good soup. I was there a few weeks ago. [But he approaches the pots of soup to examine.]

Are the people coming through the lines getting their own bowls and stuff then or are we handing those out too?

Nice. I’ll look forward to it.

[A pause.]

I think they’re getting their own bowls? But I guess I just kind of assumed that, so I’m not 100% sure.

Let's just hang out behind the counter and find out. If it turns out we have to get bowls for them we can ask one of the supervisors or something. [The apron's on and they make their way back to the large pots of soup and he can't help it when he lifts the lid of one to smell its contents.]

Looks like we're working with vegetable soup in this one. What's in the other one, same thing?

Sounds good.

[Looking over at his for a moment, she pulls open her own with a smile at the smell and the steam curling up now that the lid is removed.]

Chicken noodle, looks like.

The perfect food for winter. [He's taking a ladle and stirring the pot a little to let the scent waft upward. Maybe if he smells it enough he can taste it...] I think they have all of the ingredients on-hand and people in the back making batches in case we run out, too, so hopefully anybody who comes in can get what they want.

[Different than what they need, at least. But he glances at the door. They should be letting people in soon.] How're the rest of your chores going so far?

It'd really suck to run out, so that's cool to know.

[A nod, before she frowns a little.]

Keith is the worst person in the world.

[Ah.]

[Suddenly his less-than-bouncy demeanor breaks and he laughs without meaning to.]

He's one of your partners, too? He threw a shovel at me. [That sounds bad.] I caught it, it was fine, but he's not so bad...I think. [i.e. dish, Natalie. The doors open though and people begin to file in to get their soup. It's cool, he can multitask.]

Of course he did. He would.

[The most intense thousand yard stare.]

We had to sprint out of the restaurant where they did the chili pepper thing because he made me break one of their plates and possibly ruin their wallpaper. Also, he wouldn't wear the Santa costume so I had to awkwardly lower my voice for several hours.

[Was he supposed to stop laughing because that's not happening.]

How did he make you break a plate and ruin wallpaper? You'd think the Santa costume would be less embarrassing than the elf costume though. [But luckily their guests have their own bowls, so John's reaching forward to start ladling up soup.]

It's not funny!

[It is at least a little funny. Either way, she's reaching forward to do the same to anyone who comes by and asks for chicken noodle.]

Okay, so, like... He didn't realize that we could still tell when things are spicy, so he shoved like five peppers into his mouth at once, and then got mad that I didn't stop him, so he shoved the plate at me. Obviously I tried to get it away, except when I did it kind of hit the wall and shattered. I don't know if any of the pieces tore the wallpaper, but we ran out after that. [But that last part gets a fervent nod.] Right? He makes no sense.

[No, it's definitely funny, sorry Natalie. But they seem to be working in sync between serving soup and chatting and John's being polite to anybody who approaches at least.]

Somehow that is actually even more hilarious than I pictured. [Also I hate that you and Kyuu keep writing things where Kyuu's character throws shit for yours and it damages a wall.] As long as ReVA doesn't find out it was you guys you're probably okay. You still have a lot left to do with him?

It's not hilarious, oh my god. He's the worst.

[She says, between offering smiles and spooning more soup into bowls.]

We left really quickly, so fingers crossed, I guess. We've just got the soup one left at this point, which is at least harder to ruin? So there's that.

At least it's almost over. I have one more chore to do with him and a few more with a few other people, too. It is hard to ruin soup, but if I hear about you guys ruining soup later I promise I will keep my comments to myself.

It would be him ruining soup, not me. Let's get that straight.

[This assault on her honor!!]

Maybe you should remind him we can still feel temperature, too, so he doesn't burn himself with it. [Yeah ok he'll believe it when he sees it.]

I think I'd rather see the look on his face.

[wow]

Harsh. [And yet probably justified considering what she just said. Whoops.] But then again if he does not figure that out on his own what better way to learn than experience?

Exactly! Which is why I didn't stop him when he ate the peppers. I'm trying to give him an education.
