[Cool. One fry and some hot chocolate. At least it's something. Still, he's also wriggling his phone out of his pocket to pull up a playlist, flicking through it.]

...there is a song I really like that I think you could probably pick up easily? It's not one I sent you but I've been playing around with it myself.

[What if he just holds the container/bag of fries here and lets Dave take them as he feels like, will that work? Lord. But he grins and he doesn't say anything while he selects a song to play on the speakers through his phone.]

[ "yo what the fuck" is a thought that definitely comes up, but dave just laughs, because that's kind of what he does when he has no idea what else to do. ]

Sure, why not? I'll even provide the vocals if you want.

[Look. It doesn't hurt that John actually liked the song prior to.../gestures. But he settles for a grin as he lets the song finish and it rolls into a different one. Apparently John just has a playlist for this shit.]

Yeah? I haven't really heard you sing much besides the once.

This one. [ dave smirks, then shrugs. ] And that would be because I do not frequently sing for people.

[windeity]

What? I like this one. [He skips over Fireflies when it comes up since he knows Dave's aware of his feelings about that song, rolling into another.] You could probably pick anything you liked and I could either find sheet music or create something simple myself. It's easier for me to arrange stuff that already has a melody to follow.

[Hm.] But you'd be okay singing for the people at this thing?

[ well dave likes "fireflies" even if the music inspired by dYING made him go "yo". ]

Yes. It's not a thing I mind doin', it's just not a thing I happen to do all that often. The first one's a little faster, might be more fun for a jam session.

[LOOK. And also double-look, John's also becoming Aware that a lot of his favorites are really weirdly romantic so. HAHA. LET'S BACKTRACK!]

Then we can do the first one. Like I said I have been playing around with it on and off between other stuff, I could probably teach you enough to follow along with me by Friday.

[ he snags another fry, shrugging. ]

[An echoing shrug.] No, you actually kept up which was really nice. And it is pretty basic once you learn the first couple of lines. It'll be fun.

You will never find a better sidekick. [ if only because he adapts to what people need from him but shut up. ] And Yosuke posted about it earlier. I'm kinda familiar with him, though I know some people he hangs with better.

I stopped looking for one of those when I first moved here. [The implication is that Dave is great and he's also mostly joking. Mostly.] In that case it's even more exciting to meet more people. We could always use more friends, you know? [At this point the playlist is just filtering through every Owl City song he knows and John seems to ignore it for the most part until a cover starts to play and he immediately hits skip before it can get too far.]

Besides, my Fridays are pretty open anyway.

[ nice try. dave laughs, and picks up the tune without requiring either music or lyrics, singing with perfect pitch and way too much amusement. he's teasing, because john hit skip way too fast. ]

[...he lifts his eyebrows before he smacks Dave's hands away gently, laughing in embarrassment before he pauses. There's a few moments before he shifts, picking up the phone and stopping the music all together.

Give him a moment to backtrack and he seems to be looking for a timestamp because the song picks up right about where Dave stopped singing. Instead, John's voice picks up the lyrics from there and he'll just. Let that play.

You know. Since Dave's bugged him about this a couple of times now. It's an old piece of work, something from before he even moved here and it's clear he's more invested in his playing than the singing given his tone is a little softer. He's not the best but he knows pitch and sound well enough that he can follow along and sound decent.]

[ ok, first of all, how dare john make dave's teasing backfire. second of all, why.

but he lets his hands drop, and does not reach over to his desk to retrieve his hot chocolate. instead i guess he's staring down at john as john lies leaning against dave's crossed legs and sings? he definitely has been badgering john about this since...day one.

after a few seconds of startled silence he'll join in, though, because that's what he does when john throws music his way. after a second he rearranges his hands so he is petting mewpac and she doesn't think she's being ignored, and after half a minute he's singing to the kitten because dave is a certain way and that way is dumb. ]

[Yeah. This is probably just enough to buy him some time for things he's thinking and maybe he should have picked a better song but Dave started it? So. There's that. He doesn't mind that Dave's singing to the cat and somewhere around the last chorus his voice drops out and he lets Dave finish singing it as the song winds down and immediately starts playing a different one.

Haha. So anyway.]

This is why you are doing the singing and not me. [He can play it off.] Also shut up.

I happen to like your voice. [ which is true? dave may be the better singer here like john's the better pianist, but he still likes john's voice? he's pathetically really pleased john actually finally sang him a damn thing? ] But I will not argue if I get to be in a select club of people who get to hear it rather than everyone, so whatever.

[ he picks the cat up to hug. WHY DOES HE LOVE THIS STUPID CAT SO MUCH. ]

[Because Mewpac is the only one in this room who has their shit together. She purrs in Dave’s hands and uses a paw to bat at him. John doesn’t move but he’s comfortable anyway.]

Considering that will never happen again, yes, you can be part of a select group. But I had to listen to the song a lot so I have the whole thing memorized.

Don't say that. [ rude. he sets the cat down on john's chest and leans over him, pulling a face. ] At least let me live in hope that you'll sing for me again sometime. Why did you have to listen to the song a lot?

[windeity]

[Mewpac goes down and John pets her while he grins up at Dave instead. ] Maybe someday. But cherish it and whatever. Anyway remember how I said I stopped playing in high school except for a couple of favors to friends? That was one of the favors.

[parodeity]

I would settle for special occasions and holidays. I didn't even get to record it? [ will he drop this topic ever PROBABLY NOT... ] ...But yeah, I remember.

[windeity]

[I hope Dave is ready to get wrecked in the future then since John will take that into consideration. But either way:]

Be faster next time. Anyway, a friend of mine wanted to impress this girl by trying out for a musical so he had me arrange and play for him. For the record he sucked at it but the drama club asked me to play for the spring show.

[parodeity]

I wouldn't record you without your permission. [ PHOTOS ARE DIFFERENT AND HE MORE OR LESS has permission since john had never stopped him. ] Also, you might have stopped if I'd paused to do so?

Is that really the impressive kinda gesture? I mean, was she into musicals, then?

...yeah you may have a point. [John is more uneasy with his singing than his playing so let’s not have that on record.] And yeah, she was. She said she’d only date a guy who could serenade her and it sort of snowballed from there.
