[ there's no response but someone throws a sort of pathetic pillow off the roof aimed for the front door. ]

[He squints up at the roof before he grabs the pillow and flies upward toward the roof. He doesn't even have to land before he speaks.]

he's staring at john and his hand twitches but dave does not actually move from where he is sprawled on his back. ]

Oh. [...yeah, okay. He's not sure how to feel about that but he does approach before taking a seat on the rooftop next to him while holding the pillow in his lap.] Do you want to keep staying up here?

Time travel. [ dave corrects. ] Or what - should have been. I saw a lot of people die. It wasn't...I couldn't quite...I don't know what happened and I think I need to try it again?

...I wasn't sure you were serious about time travel being connected to that. [There's an uncertain look.] Why do you need to try again if that is a thing you're seeing?

Because I need to know if its a fluke. [ ... ] I debated just going anyway and not telling you.

I really appreciate that you did not do that since that would make things even worse. [He just kind of settles down and waits to hear more, resting his chin on his knees.] ...what would I have to do?

If I'd tried it mid-battle I'd have gotten myself killed. I'm almost lucky I only tried it for a dumb gardening project.

[It's hard not to look super-worried suddenly, but fair. That makes sense and he frowns a little.]

Right. [ then he proceeds to do nothing, chewing his lip and eyeing john. ]

[He's trying to be as calm as possible but this is starting to sound like a bad idea.] ...you're sure?

[parodeity]

Oh. Yeah, I am, I was just...

[ debating. ignis called him back out of his own head with a whistle and if he's going back to that he kind of wants to ask if john will give him an anchor, let dave hold his hand. but it's a little too much to ask for when he still won't let himself ask for even smaller than that things. ]

Being stupid. It's not that big a deal. I mean, it is, but it's not like it's new.

[He still doesn't look that convinced. He'd do whatever it took to keep Dave grounded but simultaneously he doesn't know what that is. So he sits patiently and nods a little.]

It's still kind of scary though. I don't think you ever said anything like that back home when you were timetraveling.
