I'd want more time to work on a duet for original stuff. [ explaining, since like, he'd like to...spend time on that. ] But yeah, you did. You can pick whatever from their playlist, I don't actually mind anythin' they have.

...there is a song I really like that I think you could probably pick up easily? It's not one I sent you but I've been playing around with it myself.

[ "yo what the fuck" is a thought that definitely comes up, but dave just laughs, because that's kind of what he does when he has no idea what else to do. ]

[Look. It doesn't hurt that John actually liked the song prior to.../gestures. But he settles for a grin as he lets the song finish and it rolls into a different one. Apparently John just has a playlist for this shit.]

Yeah? I haven't really heard you sing much besides the once.

This one. [ dave smirks, then shrugs. ] And that would be because I do not frequently sing for people.

[windeity]

What? I like this one. [He skips over Fireflies when it comes up since he knows Dave's aware of his feelings about that song, rolling into another.] You could probably pick anything you liked and I could either find sheet music or create something simple myself. It's easier for me to arrange stuff that already has a melody to follow.

[Hm.] But you'd be okay singing for the people at this thing?

Yes. It's not a thing I mind doin', it's just not a thing I happen to do all that often. The first one's a little faster, might be more fun for a jam session.

[LOOK. And also double-look, John's also becoming Aware that a lot of his favorites are really weirdly romantic so. HAHA. LET'S BACKTRACK!]

Then we can do the first one. Like I said I have been playing around with it on and off between other stuff, I could probably teach you enough to follow along with me by Friday.

Following you has never really required a whole lot of teachin'. I can pick up whatever you can throw down.

[ he snags another fry, shrugging. ]

[An echoing shrug.] No, you actually kept up which was really nice. And it is pretty basic once you learn the first couple of lines. It'll be fun.

You will never find a better sidekick. [ if only because he adapts to what people need from him but shut up. ] And Yosuke posted about it earlier. I'm kinda familiar with him, though I know some people he hangs with better.

I stopped looking for one of those when I first moved here. [The implication is that Dave is great and he's also mostly joking. Mostly.] In that case it's even more exciting to meet more people. We could always use more friends, you know? [At this point the playlist is just filtering through every Owl City song he knows and John seems to ignore it for the most part until a cover starts to play and he immediately hits skip before it can get too far.]

Besides, my Fridays are pretty open anyway.

[ nice try. dave laughs, and picks up the tune without requiring either music or lyrics, singing with perfect pitch and way too much amusement. he's teasing, because john hit skip way too fast. ]

[...he lifts his eyebrows before he smacks Dave's hands away gently, laughing in embarrassment before he pauses. There's a few moments before he shifts, picking up the phone and stopping the music all together.

Give him a moment to backtrack and he seems to be looking for a timestamp because the song picks up right about where Dave stopped singing. Instead, John's voice picks up the lyrics from there and he'll just. Let that play.

You know. Since Dave's bugged him about this a couple of times now. It's an old piece of work, something from before he even moved here and it's clear he's more invested in his playing than the singing given his tone is a little softer. He's not the best but he knows pitch and sound well enough that he can follow along and sound decent.]
