[ what this nets is him just picking up a small personal pizza of john's favorite and zero food for himself, since it's less about hunger and more about a stalling distraction and some sort of apology for Existing, but.

Instead, Dave will find that John only appeared at the dorm not much sooner than Dave himself since he's still wearing his shoes and hoodie. He seems to be standing up at his desk and writing something down while he's thinking of it, so when Dave opens the door he turns his head and rewards him with a half-smile.]

Welcome back. [There's a tinge of disappointment he doesn't let slip through his actions or tone (since he's not stupid enough to notice Dave only brought food for him), but he's not going to talk about that either.]

Yeah. Didn't pick up breadsticks, wasn't sure you wanted any? [ he drops the box onto some spare space on john's desk and heads over to his own, not bothering to shed any of his layers or kick off his shoes. there's a cursory scan for the cat before he boots his laptop and digs out a textbook. ] But you should eat it while it's hot.

[Mewpac's taken up residence on Dave's bed instead curled up on his pillow. John on the other hand finishes what he's writing and sends his notebook up into his sylladex.]

Had a test tomorrow or something and had to study, so it seemed easiest to just let him go do that.

He doesn't exactly know what to say given how things went earlier today. He doesn't want to ask and he doesn't want to rock the boat, so he focuses on his homework instead and leaves Dave to work in silence.]
