[ inside is dave on his bed in jeans and sweaters with the cat curled up on his lap?

he doesn't look up from his phone because he'll still feel a little awkward until he's completely sure this is okay. ]

[Well. Okay. John has a paper bag in his hand and also a cup of hot chocolate and his backpack's starting to slide off but at least he's inside and he'll just casually approach before settling on the bed near Dave's legs. The bag goes to his other side and one hand goes out to pet the cat while the other holds the cup out to Dave instead.]

Seriously. I am taking advantage of the peppermint thing.

To get me to forgive you all your sins?

[ he does set his phone to the side and reach out to take the cup, though. he doesn't exactly avoid john's fingers on purpose, like he's been known to do when pulling back, but he's careful like he usually is. ]

[windeity]

All things considered I am perfectly aware that may not be a thing, so let's go for "forgive me most of my sins." [There's a half-smile and he settles in, reaching into the bag to unearth...a burger. He was absolutely serious about that. He doesn't say anything and lets Dave take the cup without fussing at least.]

[parodeity]

I'll consider it. They were pretty big sins. [ he fiddles with the cup and doesn't drink. ] - I didn't say everything I wanted to say, actually. I think.

[windeity]

[Hm. He focuses more on his food than outright staring at Dave, but okay.]

Oh. Do you want me to leave and we can pick up again via text then?

[parodeity]

No, I want to say this part in person. [ ...just...let him fiddle with the cup for a few more minutes before he forces himself to look up, even if john isn't looking at dave. ]

I'm sorry.

[Well. For this part he'll look at him because he's a little surprised.]

For what...?

[parodeity]

For putting you in a hard place, for...not being able to handle certain things, for...getting upset? For all of it, in general.

[windeity]

[Oh.]

Well. You do not have to apologize for getting upset. That happens. It's fine. And the rest...it's okay. I mean it, I am not just saying that. I get why that is a thing and so I'm not mad or anything. [A pause.] I will admit it was a little frustrating at first but I understand so it's fine. I'm sorry I wasn't listening.

...I wasn't saying a whole lot for you to listen to.

I have an idea. [A grin.] Might be kind of crazy, but what if we both stop apologizing and just start fresh since we've talked stuff out and I am pretty sure we forgive each other? Is that doable?

[parodeity]

...Okay. Just...don't give up on me yet?

[ he's not fidgeting with the cup, at least, though he still hasn't drunk it; he's just cradling it carefully. ]

I'm trying. I'll...keep trying.

[windeity]

I know you will dude. I'm not worried about that. [There's a weird kind of tension leaving his shoulders at least.] You've been trying really hard, I think, and I appreciate that. I'd have to be the biggest asshole on the planet to think about giving up on you right now.

[parodeity]

Just...I wanted you to know I am. I'm going to try to work on things. I...wanted to after I talked to him. It's something we talked about.

[windeity]

[...? He's not sure if "him" is Dirk or someone else in this scenario but he does nod along anyway.]

I know. I never doubted that you wanted to try since that is sort of just how you are. So...I know. It's okay.

[parodeity]

[ HE MEANS MALIK. ]

[HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW DAVE WENT TO SEE MALIK. He has yet to put those pieces together. I hate this.]

Your opinion matters a lot, you know that? It's why I never mind sending you my stuff and letting you listen to it first. I like your remixes. It just feels...normal.

I like when you let me listen to it first. It feels like...being best friends. [ he rolls his eyes, and finally has some of the hot chocolate. ] That sounds lame. But it feels like somethin' for us.

No, I get it. [Thank god Dave starts drinking at least.] It's more personal that way like...you opposed to friendship bracelets once and I thought that was weird at the time but I definitely get it now. But it's like that? Symbolism or something since I know nobody is going to actually get the music the same way you do.

[What if he just shuts up and eats his burger?] Privilege and stuff. You have been kind of a weird inspiration to my stuff lately.

Careful, I'll swoon. [ dryly. ] Speaking of music, though. Do you want to do something together with me?

You could probably pull off southern belle if you really tried. [He nods though.] What kind of something? I mean yes, duh, but that sounds like you have something in mind already.

Mm. This friday, Yosuke's throwin' some music jam thing. There will apparently be pizza. I thought you might want to go?

[windeity]

Sure. Could be fun. [He's trying to think if he's met Yosuke and he hasn't looked at the network so no he knows nothing.] I could use the time to freestyle a little anyway and it's nice to hang out with other people, you know?

[A pause.] Elliot texted me the other day, too. Asked if I wanted to play for someone's wedding.
